Thank you very much to each organisation that has supported me, and made my research career possible.

Medical research is dependent on scientific funding and without it, there would be no discoveries, no advances, and no changes to therapeutic options. With more national dedication to funding research, one can only imagine the possibilities...

SCIENTIFIC FUNDING

NHMRC Investigator Grant EL1 Fellowship

2022:  CIA, $650,740

The survival of our cellular building blocks is crucial to prevent disease. One way our cells maintain their health is through disposing of cellular waste. This project will investigate a new waste disposal system employed by key cells that line the vascular system. Through in vivo models and imaging, this project will determine how our cells survive under healthy and disease conditions, and how disposing of their waste correctly can prevent inflammation.

2022: CIA, $25,000

This funding will help establish a new project investigating how dying cells are removed to prevent inflammation. It aims to discover new molecular factors that aid the recognition and removal of dying cells, and assess how the messages released by dying cells and phagocytes work together to maintain the perfect balance of inflammatory signalling.

2021: CIA, $50,000

Despite the recent developments in cancer research, cancer remains the second leading cause of death world-wide, accounting for every 1 in 6 deaths. As most anti-cancer approaches such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy function by inducing cancer cell death, further understanding the biology of cell death is paramount. This project will develop new methods to study cancer cell death in vivo and investigate the potential of repurposing clinically approved drugs to target cancer cell fragmentation.

2019: CIA, $50,000

This proof-of-concept project will determine whether inducing the fragmentation of dying cancer cells can enhance the cancer-killing capacity of the immune response and overall, aid disease resolution. Through this novel and exciting research, we hope to develop the knowledge required to create new therapeutics which can enhance the function of our own immune system to fight and eliminate cancer.
